Kids Recipe For Mini Gingerbread House
from: Karlie BestlerI you have little one who love helping you make things in the kitchen, they will enjoy creating a mini gingerbread house for the Christmas season. This delicious kids Christmas recipe makes cute little treats, but it can also be used to make Christmas decorations for years to come.
Mini Gingerbread House
Ingredients:
Graham crackers
Frosting for glue (see recipe below)
Assorted small candies for decorations
Ribbon
Pastry bag and tip or ziploc bag and scissors
Frosting
Frosting For Glue:
1/2 pound powdered sugar
3 tbs. butter or margarine
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 - 2 tbs. milk
Cooking Instructions:
1. Mix all the ingredients together until smooth and easy to spread, but not runny. Add more sugar if too runny.
2. If using a pastry bag, place frosting in bag and use a small tip. If you don't have a pastry bag, you can use a ziploc bag by cutting a small hole in a corner.
3. Place one graham cracker flat on the table and squeeze a little frosting around all the edges.
3. Place one cracker on each side standing up. It now looks like a box without a top. You may need an extra pair of hands to hold up all the sides.
4. Carefully squeeze frosting on all the outside corners from top to bottom and around the bottom of the box.
5. Let stand for a short while to let the frosting harden a little to make working with the roof a little easier.
6. Squeeze frosting on two of the top edges of the box and place two graham crackers in a V shape on as the roof (two sides are left open). It looks like a triangle on a box now from the side. It may overhang if you can get the frosting to hold for you.
7. Squeeze frosting along the top of the roof where the crackers join.
8. Let stand until frosting hardens a little.
9. With leftover frosting, cover the roof to look like snow. Then squeeze small amounts on candy pieces and place candy on the house to decorate. You can also use the frosting to add things like doors and windows. Just use your imagination.
10. When totally dry, string ribbon through the open sides of the roof and hang on the Christmas tree.
These gingerbread houses are safe to eat. If you would like to save these treasures for years to come, you can apply 2 - 3 coats of spray varnish in a well ventilated area to preserve them.
